Butterfly and a Snail...

Butterfly - Snail...

Man invading Nature AND Nature returning back the favor...

Man invading Nature - Nature returning back the favor...

Some Information if you want to try it out—–

Our Travel Iternary:
-Pune(ShivajiNagar) by Indian Railways to Karjat [90kms, ~2 hours 15 minutes]
-Karjat  by State Transport bus/Priavte Rickshaw to Khandas (halt) [35kms, ~1 hour]
-Khandas via Ganpati Ghat (easier way, Sheeli ghat is tougher) to  Bhimashankar Temple [The trek, ~3-4 hours for a average person]
-Bhimashankar to Pune(ShivajiNagar) by State Transport bus [100kms, ~3 hours]

Difficulty Level:
Its not really a difficult trek, but its long and the length would take the better out of you…

Hotels/Accommodation:
No hotel accommodation is available at Khandas… You will have to book with someone at the Village… Plenty of accommodation is available at Bhimashankar…

Site Seeing:
Lots of good views to see all through the trek… Also plenty of wild-life can be spotted if that interests you…

Safety:
Things are pretty safe, unless you are travelling at odd hours and odd days… On weekends you will see lot of other teams/groups enjoying along with you.

NOTE:
-When we traveled, there was no mobile phone network available at Khandas! However, there is a local PCO available in the village.
-If you are thinking of a overnight program the last State Transport bus from Karjat to Khandas is at 7:45 pm, after which its is difficult to find any transport to reach Khandas. Also please arranage for the accommodation at Khandas before hand…

PS: Thanks to Yuvashakti and Aniruddha Kulkarani for arranging this trek and accomodating us at very short notice… Thank you for travelling with all of us (Hemant, Nimesh, Pravin, Snehdeep and swapsshah) and posting your comments on both the blog and the photos at picassa… You may catch all the photos here

…This post is part 2 of two-part writup of Khandas Bhimashnkar Trek where I have recorded memories and experiences from the trek…

  4. @Mrudula: hehe… I cannot write a Harry Potter series… ;-) I am still new to blogging… I thought that the 1st day write-up was too exhaustive and so kept this one to the point!!! Surely, next time ons I will try to be more elaborate… Thanks for the feedback… :)

  8. अरे यार ऐ थो कहानी शुरू होने से फहले ही ख़तम हुई ;-(

Anyways, nice pics. No need to write the Harry Potter story but you can try the Indian version, Hari Puttar. Come out with version 3 of this ;-)

    Good luck!

  11. @Sneha: Thank you…

Lonavala-Bhimashankar are close… Mahabaleshwar would be distant… I think you would get the entire range of hotels to stay at Lonavala and Mahabaleshwar… Bhimashankar would be a one-day, day trip…

But the best time to visit any of these places would be in rains though Mahabaleshwar should be relatively cooler at this time…

    Good luck with your travel…

  12. M planning to go trekking to bhimashankar dis weekend…first time! what kind of shoes one wear?

    sheena

    July 13, 2009 at 4:35 pm

  13. @Sheena: Any normal sports-canvas shoes with a good grip would be good enough. It isnt a tough trek. No special trekking gear is required.

    Good luck with your travel…
